Global Water Technologies includes Voltea technology on its XPRIZE Water Scarcity team
INDIANAPOLIS AND CHICAGO, October 1, 2025 — Global Water Technologies (OTC: GWTR) is pleased to announce the addition of Voltea technology for its Qualified Testing system in the XPRIZE Water Scarcity competition. Voltea has been delivering electro-desalination water treatment equipment to institutional, commercial and industrial customers for more than 15 years.
Voltea’s capacitive deionization systems remove dissolved salts from water using electricity with less environmental cost and it was named the Breakthrough Water Technology Company of the Year at the 2018 Global Water Summit in Paris.
"We’re pleased to include Voltea inside our prototype system and show how capacitive deionization technology can be leveraged as an innovative solution in new applications," said Erik Hromadka, CEO of Global Water Technologies.
"We look forward to supporting the team with this core technology that drives real-world impact in addressing water scarcity through the creation of an innovative seawater desalination system designed to improve water recovery, energy efficiency and brine management," said Todd Marron, CEO of Voltea..
The Global Water Technologies team was selected as one of 93 teams reimagining system-level innovation from among a pool of 674 pre-registered teams from 86 countries. These Track A teams will compete in the next stage of the $119 million prize competition that is being sponsored by the Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative, which is dedicated to raising awareness of water scarcity and accelerating the development and deployment of sustainable technological solutions.
